Hey Blogsties !
I’m backkkkkkk. It's been a couple of months since the last time we chatted, so I truly hope you all's summer has been full of peace, love, and some good, good grub LOL
As for me, my summer has been super busy, but very blessed! I started a new job on my dream unit, traveled, finally picked up yoga (something I was supposed to like 15 blog posts ago smh), and attended a ton of family and friend’s events. Although busy, I certainly could not let the summer end without cooking up another dish for ya...so let's eat !
Speaking of food, do yall remember that line by Lil Wayne, "Real Gs, Move in Silence like Lasagna?" Well if you don't, this particular line of lyrics comes from the rap song Six Foot, Seven Foot which actually has a super dope beat, and some compositions that will really make you think. It’s been eleven years since the debut of the song and I am still pondering on what "Move in silence like Lasagna", actually means/portrays.
Here are my thoughts...
I feel that more than ever my generation (the millennials) have been emphasizing this ideal of silence as doctrine, and the more I let this marinate the more I question whether this is truth or part of the problem?
Today, social media will tell you to remain silent, do not broadcast your moves only the come up. But why ? I just don’t understand this. In my scrolls through Facebook, Instagram, and twitter basically I’ve perceived that it is better for a person to work and work and work and work behind closed doors and then boom 💥 out of no where make the major announcement of accomplishment. I’m just not buying this, but this has been the model lately. All I see on social media are highlights, to include: buying a new house, getting accepted into a top tier grad program, launching a new business, flashing the new engagement ring, etc., but that is just it, all I get is the announcement...not the insight on the process. Now do not get get me wrong blogsties, I LOVE to see all these wonderful things happening for people, but I often wonder where or what was the process to getting the promotion?
I believe that adopting a “silent” doctrine is only leading us to deception. Deceived by the thought that you can achieve a goal or a desire without having to put too much time or effort into it, this is just not so. But maybe what my peers do not know understand is that I want to be inspired by the struggle. Yes, I want to be inspired by the struggle. This may sound out of the ordinary, but is it really?
Just tell me.
Tell me how you accepted an offer for your dream job, but don't leave out the detail that this took place only after multiple failed interviews. Tell me about your monetary blessings, but also tell me about the sacrifices you had to make for the blessing to manifest. Yes, tell me about the degree you just acquired, but I also want to hear about all the all nighters you had to endure to get your name printed on the diploma.
Just tell me.
Oh it is privacy, you say ? I get it.
I do understand the importance of privacy. I understand that you can’t share everything with everyone, simply because not everyone will have your best interest in mind. I do believe that silence is golden and should be embraced when deemed necessary, but in the same respect I think it is time for complete silence to be seated.
I say all this to say...I am waiting for more. Give me more insight, give me more detail. Tell me your truth. Let your story be told, the whole story; because what I know is that a fragment can not set another free.
Let’s all win. Let’s uplift one another. Show me how you became great. I want to encourage you and or be encouraged, but how can I do so when society is telling us we are supposed to remain silent and figure out success all alone? Personally, I want to celebrate your wins knowing just how much effort it took to claim the victory. I want to be inspired by your story. Will you give me that chance?
Always served with love,
Dri ♥
